FULL CIRCLE - How did I get here? Where am I headed?
My husband and I recently moved back to the small town where I grew up - merely a stone’s throw from the house I grew up in - and a few hundred yards from the historied Nacote Creek. Since childhood the waters and salt marshes of our sleepy little town have been my playground and solace. I have spent a lifetime creating Art inspired by the details of my natural surroundings. My earliest watercolor lessons began at 5 years old and were held in an old fisherman’s cottage (see below) overlooking the Mullica River - Great Bay Estuary, where freshwaters from the land meet and mix with salty waters from the ocean. My teacher - who became a lifelong friend and mentor - taught me to “see” the world around me and not just look, to take in every tiny detail. Nearly 50 years later I have worked in a variety of mediums, from drawing and painting to weaving and stitching, with the common thread being my attention to the often overlooked elements of the natural world. My layered, contemplative paintings are rooted in my observation of Nature and are meticulously hand painted to create effortlessly serene spaces. I hope you find peace and calm in the ESTUARY COLLECTION.
On the left is the fisherman’s cottage where, at the age of five, I began taking watercolor lessons. Looking back I see how these early lessons set the stage for my life as an artist and keen observer of nature.
