Shifting Perspectives
My introspective summer re-charge continues….
In my previous post I detailed my daily bike ride, the routine of which moves my body, clears my head, and has been generally good for my sense of wellbeing. It was my habit to pause along the same stretch of the estuary every morning, noticing the subtle changes of weather and season. I rarely see another soul and became quite used to the solitude of my spot for morning reflections.
That is until one morning I pedaled up to find a rambunctious gang of young boys skipping stones, poking things with sticks, and generally “being boys”. At first I was annoyed - this is my spot of solitude after all - but as I watched them for a moment it brought back a rush of fond memories of my own son and his friends enjoying the same activities along this same creek. I smiled and moved along to another spot where the boys were out of sight and out of mind. Here I was gazing at the estuary from a new angle, the sun shone directly towards me, reflections sparkling across the gentle ebb and flow of the water. This dazzling show was new to me, only visible from this vantage point. I now enjoy watching this luminous show newly every morning and this has become my new spot to absorb inspiration and peace. I am excited to begin a new series of estuary paintings inspired by this shift in perspective and thought you might enjoy sharing in the journey.
As always, Nature is my wisest teacher, gently guiding me to look at things from a new perspective.

Capturing the morning light dancing across the surface of the estuary.
Ripples of luminous movement invite pause.
This gentle study of the estuary invokes a dreamlike mood.
The natural tones of linen reflect our brackish estuary.
Iridescent silver richly pigmented with mica flakes creates an ever-changing, shimmering surface.
