“The Untethered Soul”

After an unusually busy exhibition season, I have enjoyed a bit of free time for introspection lately—time to recharge, relax, and gather new inspiration. Knowing how much I enjoy the freedom and solitude of a long bike ride, my dear husband bought me a new bike this year. I’ve gotten into the routine of riding a loop around our little town every morning—the same route every day—noticing the subtle changes throughout the summer season. The intense chartreuse of new buds and shoots is amplified against the smoky blue-green of the marsh grasses. Vines appear seemingly overnight, intertwining themselves among the phragmites and capturing everything in their winding path, as growth and change unfold day by day. That which is normally overlooked, considered by many to be a weed, becomes inspiration—a beautiful example of Mother Nature’s resilience, strength, and tenacity. I collect these details in my mind, like a secret cabinet of curiosities, then pedal on, patiently waiting for my muse to strike.

I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into my creative process, from the seeds of inspiration to full bloom.
