Making space for new growth…
I’ve spent a lot of time lately sorting through sketchbooks, boxes, and closets, in preparation for my upcoming “Gallery at Home” Open Studio”. (June 12-14, 2026). Each new piece I uncover brings back memories of the stage in life when I created it. It has been a poignant and heartwarming trip down memory lane and I look forward to sharing these special pieces with you. It’s time to give this work a new home and make space for new ideas to flourish.
And speaking of flourishing ~ Last week I planted beautiful Yellow Flag Iris in my new rain garden. After thinning out large stands of these iris to make space in her own garden, my sister shared some with me. As I planted them I realized that these iris are the “descendants” of plants gifted to me by my beloved art teacher many, many years ago. The plants have been loved, cultivated, divided up, and shared through the years only to come full circle back to my new garden. In a moment of serendipity on the very same day, I came across the below photo while sorting through an old album. The photo depicting Yellow Flag Iris and Irish Traveller wagons was taken on a trip my sister and I took to Ireland in the 1990’s. This romantic scene of a meandering stream and vibrantly colored wagons captured my imagination and perhaps subconsciously inspired my little rain garden. Another serendipitous example of life coming full circle don’t you think?
