Step-by-step. My contemplative and meaningful process.
Pausing to See Ourselves Reflected in the Stillness of Nature.
I’ve been called shy, timid, quiet, and introverted. However, looking back I like to consider myself simply introspective. Even as a child I valued my solitude ~ quiet time to think and allow creative ideas to flow forth seemingly out of nowhere. Art, to me, is the urge to capture those creative insights and commit them to “reality” to the best of my ability. People often ask about my process, my materials, and the ideas behind my work. I thought it would be fun to step inside my studio and share my process in a step-by-step visual story. (as I’m much better with pictures than I am with words :)
One important detail to note ~ I had an exceptional Arts education from Moore College of Art and the words of my esteemed professor are my constant companion as I create.
“Nothing is arbitrary - every detail and material must be intentional and meaningful.”
I hope the following sheds some light on the “intentional and meaningful” process behind my layered and contemplative paintings from “The Estuary Collection”. Enjoy.
